In the district of Cedofeita, not far from the old town of Porto, one finds the Mondo Deli. The renovated building, with its glass façade, dates from the 1920s quickly attracts attention in Rua do Almada. Not only because of its appearance, but also because before the Mondo Deli a piano shop had its home here, originally this was the street of craftsmen and hardware stores. From cables, screws and tools you still get everything you need to work as a handyman.
A few years ago, Christian Haas and his partner Marcus Zietz bought the whole building and its garden. The product designer renovated everything according to his needs, moved with his studio and private rooms to the upper floors and on the ground floor the Mondo Deli was created.
The Mondo Deli opened its doors in 2016. It should be an inviting place, a place to meet friends or family. The bright, large tables invite you to enjoy the seasonal, mostly vegetarian cuisine and a good glass of wine from small producers from all over Portugal. Chef Catarina Garcias and her team work with local suppliers and cook for their guests with a mixture of Mediterranean cuisine, the Middle East and Asian influences. The beetroot carpaccio was a perfect starter for me on the warm summer evening and I actually had to eat the salad with squid twice.
