Ever had an Avocado Coffee?? The Kangen Ubud is a lovely little Warung wich offers Indonesian Coffee Specialties. From the first time on I fell in love with this very welcoming place. A bit offside the touristy path and away from the noise of the street you can sit in the shady garden or for a chat on the counter.
The menu is small but very kreativ and a good mixture of traditionell Indonesian Food with little bit of european influence. Everything is made fresh with a lot of passion for the food.
One of the specialties is the range of coffee recipes, which all come from different parts of Indonesia. The avocado coffee is how they drink there coffee in east of Timur, Sumatra, Borneo & Malaysia they like to drink their coffee with frothed egg yolk and in west of Java you get the coffee with coconut milk and spices. All of the food and the drinks are made with lots of passion and it all looks so good, that you want to take pictures before enjoying it.
The owner is an architect but working in the movie business for 17 years. He fulfilled his dream of creating a space for kreativ and openminded people and a meeting point for locals and foreigners.
During the last years Bali changed quite a lot. The tourism is growing pretty fast and the gap between Balines people and foreigners is getting bigger. A lot of Restaurants and coffee places are just for tourists and the locals stick to their own places. The Kangen made the balancing act to create a friendly environment to everyone with a warmth welcome and moderate prices.
For me The Knangen is a place with esprit and a very good vibe.
I love that food and will miss my favorites: watermelon-mint juice, avocado sandwich, the very yummy piskok and the avocado coffee on top. YAY if you´re around you should visit.
